Rodents
Norway rats, roof rats and house mice are all common pests, infesting structures throughout the area. In outlying areas, deer mice are also found frequently.
Rodent elimination starts with a painstaking inspection of every area of the structure, to determine the infesting species, locate the food and water sources, and identify every possible way in and out of the structure which is (or could be) used by the rodents. Next, all of the access points, both those currently in use and those that could be used, need to be sealed up. Then the current interior population can be eliminated with traps, bait, or a combination of the above.
Even after rodent exclusion repairs have been completed, it is usually necessary to initiate an exterior baiting program, utilizing secured, tamper-resistant bait stations. This keeps the nearby population in check, thereby reducing the chances of re-infestation.
It is also important to clean up the areas of infestation. This frequently involves removing and replacing contaminated insulation in attics and crawlspaces, replacing crawlspace vapor barriers, removal of droppings, and sanitization/odor control. |
