Frequently Asked Questions

1) What about kids and pets?
None of the products our technicians use to solve your pest problems will be dangerous to your family. Most of the products used, whether outside or inside, are fairly harmless to mammals in small doses. Furthermore, they could only be ingested in any way by a mammal while the solution is wet. The products are completely harmless to mammals once the application dries. As the water in the solution evaporates, the active ingredient molecules adhere to the place they were applied, and couldn’t be taken in by a pet or child even if they were to lick the area. Other materials might be applied to inaccessible areas, such as inside a wall void, where your kids and pets couldn’t go.

2) Do we have to leave?
Not ordinarily. Very few modern treatments would involve interior insecticide application in every area of a home. You might need to stay out of a specific area for a short period, until the product dries.

3) Will it smell bad?
No, most modern insecticides, whether applied outside or inside your home or business, have little or no odor. Those that do have an odor are not particularly objectionable, and the odor does not last long.

4) Will rain affect my outside work?
No. With most of the liquid products we would apply outside, the active ingredients bond with the soil surface as they dry following the application, and remain in place if the area gets wet later. And besides – the most critical place for the insecticide in most cases is a band right around the bottom of the building, and these areas stay relatively dry due to the rain cover provided by the eaves. And some products, such as granules, are actually activated by water! Your Arealty technician will know the right way to be sure your house is protected.

5) Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. Following a reasonable waiting period during which your pests decrease and sightings stop, you will have a warranted period of time during which we will gladly return and retreat if significant numbers of the pests are found. The warranty length, in most cases, will depend upon the residual time of the material used. If you have agreed to a ongoing preventative service, our work will be warranted for the life of the contract.

6) What about environmentally sound alternatives?
By letting us do your pest control, you will already be getting the most environmentally sound work possible. As professional applicators, we have access to the safest and most effective materials and methods available. And we have the knowledge to use them properly, so as to affect the environment little or not at all.
